Katie Writes Fantasy

You never know, what waits for you. Jaya Patel and Sebastian Beaumont definitely got a surprise when they became a trending couple because of an accident. Jaya was too busy with her work as an at-risk youth consuelor and Sebastian focused at his career as a rising hockey star. Until one fateful night. Now everybody thinks that they are dating. Both of them would ignore this misunderstanding, however an important fundraising depends on them. For the success, Jaya and Sebastian agree to play the happy couple. But will it stay fake, or it will become something real? And are they going to be able to stay together, or this love campain will need a miracle?

When I had read Passion's Players, one of my favourite characters was Sebastian, so I was very excited to read Love Campaign. The plot was interesting, I liked that it is entertaining, but also touches serious, problematic topics too. The characters were also good, Sebastian showed us an even sweet, vulnerable side of him and he and Jaya were a great fit. Even that I guessed what will happen, the book could surprise me and it was a very entertaining read, I enjoyed every page of Love Campaign.

Shortly, I liked Laura Marquez Diamond's Love Campaign very much. It was an interesting, entertaining book, which I recommend to everyone, who likes romance, or just a good read. However I would add that, since the book has mature content, I do not recommend it under 16 years.

Arcana Of The Crimson Era: Red Moon is the first novel of Sein Ares and the first book in the series 'Red Moon'.  Sein Ares introduces a fascinating, but dangerous world in this fantasy novel.

The story starts with a simple mission, but as always, nothing is as easy, as it seems. Soon our heroes facing new dangers and enemies. As the tale moves, we meet with lots of unique and interesting characters, some good, some evil.

I really liked this novel, Sein Ares created a unique world, full with mysteries. His magic system made me wonder, what would I be in this universe, with what kind of abilities. I found the characters good, you were cheering for them through the book. As a first part of a series, the story left us with a lots of questions, wanting more. I have to say a warning here, that even that Red Moon is a good book, if you are sensitive, maybe it is not for you. It  is rated R18 for adult situations, graphic violence, harem relationships and mentions of rape.

Shortly, Arcana Of The Crimson Era: Red Moon by Sein Ares was a good and interesting read, with unique world, fun characters, twists and mysteries. A fantasy book, which I can recommend to every fantasy fan, who would read a darker story.

The story of Sunny and Jo continues, where it stopped in the end of Crown Of Sunlight.

The second book of the Corvinus Chronicles gives us the same amount of adventure, romance and surprise, like the Crown Of Sunlight.
After an interesting, new information at the start, before we jump back and see the fate of our heroines. Sunny and Jo try to survive in the palace, meantime they plan to escape. They have to act fast, because the Dark King also has his plans with the sisters. Meantime this, Seren Reed, a Watcher, informs his friends about a possible future he saw and that they have to save Sunny and Jo. They go to the infamous Wastes, the land of criminals. Now the fate of Writhia is in the hands of the group, who has to fight with monsters and new enemies to protect everyone.

The second book of a series often became a disappointment to me, it could not keep me the same curious and the story could become too easily predictable. Payton Taylor's Palace Of Moonlight was definitely not like this. The new adventure was interesting and I loved to learn more about Writhia. The Wastes was a mysterious, dark place, which fit really well to the mood of the book and to the story.
I learned more about the characters curiously and their relationships, how they changed through the book. Now knowing more about Leo Cassavant, officially he is my favourite, I can't wait to see, what happens to him in the third novel of the series.
The story had more surprises and twist, which you would not guess and I really liked the ending. It gave answers to more of my questions, but meantime created new questions.

Shortly, the second book of The Corvinus Chronicles is the same gripping, like the first part of the story, Crown Of Sunlight. It keeps you wanting to know more and more. It is a great read, and a must, if you have read the first book.

Elloren Gardner maybe looks like her grandmother, Carnissa Garner, hero for the Gardnerians, but not just that she doesn't have any magical power, but she wants a peaceful life. Her dream is to became apothecary and she is happy, when she can attend the famous Verpax University, like her brothers. Shock follows shock for Elloren, who lived in a sheltered life in her uncle's house and she has to realise, that she knows very little from the real world. To make things more difficult, the other races does not love Carnissa Garner, as the Garnerians and they are not too welcoming about someone, who is like her. Soon Elloren is surrounded with elves and others, who despise her and to make things worse, she makes an enemy from the possible next Black Witch. Will she be able to survive in this world, where maybe everything she was taught is a lie?

Most of the negative reviews I've read, complained about the racism, and other sensitive topics in The Black Witch. Actually for me, it is not just that not disturbed me, but I found it good, that we can think about serious questions too. Until everything is balanced and well, interestingly written, putting sensitive topics too to a novel is totally ok for me. Not to mention that, that racism for example can be find even in Harry Potter, just think at the purebloods-mudbloods, and I don't remember seeing anybody complain about it. But back to The Black Witch, first I really disliked Elloren. She was everything I despise in a person, whiny and weak, someone, who doesn't even try to stand up for herself, but always runs to others to help her. Next to these, she was selfish and immediately judged others, usually negatively. Luckily after a time she started to change and I could fully enjoy the book, which was good, even that quite predictable sometimes. It even made me cry, which is rare from a novel. The story was interesting, I hope, in the next part we will get know more about the world and its history.

To sum it, I really enjoyed reading The Black Witch and I wait for the continuation of the novel. Even that first the main character was annoying and some of the events are quite predictable, it was a fun book, which I can recommend. The story is good, if you have a long weekend, when you just want to rest and read a book.

Willow Walsh is not just beautiful, but ambitious too. Born in a small city, she lives now in Chicago, with two of her close friends. When Willow is called back to a third interview to the famous Racer Journal and she gets the position the private assistant of Ella Racer, the owner, a dream comes true for the young woman. After telling the great news to the other girls, they decide, that such a thing is definitely needs to be celebrated. They go out and enjoy they night, which could not be luckier for Willow, when a handsome stranger steps into the bar and seems to be interested in her. The girl is wasting no time and sits to the mysterious man. The result surprises even her, when they end up in the apartment of Harry, the handsome stranger. The next day Willow is embarrassed and tries to forgot, what happened last night, but Harry just doesn't want to vanish from her thoughts. When she starts searching the man, it turns out, that nor Harry could forget Willow. The young woman could be perfectly happy. She has the job of her dreams and loves the most gorgeous guy she ever met. Until all of this not becomes a nightmare, when one day her boss, Ella introduces her husband. Harry. Harry Racer. The upset Willow tries to get out from the situation, which can ruin not just her life, but her carrier, but her feelings for Harry are stronger. Can Willow break out from the devilish circle of lies and secrets before they ruin her life and break her heart?

Usually I don't read romance, so Clandestine Affaire was an interesting peek into a genre, which I know less. The story made me curious and I wanted to know what happens next. What I really liked in it, that we could see another side of an affair, with the eyes of the 'other woman'. Usually the lover is, who we dislike, but in this novel, even that I also loathe cheating, we sympathise with Willow, who is also a victim. It was interesting to see all the characters and how their relationship to each other changes through the story. Another good side of the book was, that we could see the inner fight of Willow, who also suffered, because she wanted to be happy, but also, she doesn't wanted to hurt another woman.

Shorty, Clandestine Affaire was an interesting and entertaining reading. The characters are good and you stay curious at the story until the end. I can recommend it to romance fans, but also to those, who want to try out a new genre, romance.

Be careful what you wish for!

Josephina Espinosa is a hacker, who lives in the Lone Star Republic, which is a remnant of the fractured USA. One day, she and her friend are working on a difficult job, when a government raid finds and attacks them. Meantime she gets shot, Jo remembers an old tale from her grandmother, about summoning a wish-granter and she tries it with her last breath. To save her friend's life. The result is shocking. When she wakes up, Jo is in an unfamiliar room, in a strange house. Soon it turns out, that she is not alone, when a boy approaches. Wayne explains the girl, that she is now in a different reality and became a wish-granter, thanks to her wish. Because everything has a price, and in Jo's case, it was her existence. Wayne tells her about the Society of Wishes and introduces Jo to the seven other members. The mansion of the Society is beautiful, full with everything the inhabitants need, but Jo is missing freedom and it is not that easy for her to get use suddenly being erased from her world.  Things get just worse after she realizes, that her friend, who she saved, is just going down the same path, making Jo's sacrifice useless. Meantime the others are working on granting a new wish, Jo decides to protect her friend again, however she forgets, that everything she does have consequences.

The main plot made me curious, it was unique and interesting. At first sight I thought, this book has a really good potential. But sadly it just could not deliver it for me. I felt the characters stereotypical and their relationships to each other were also quite predictable. As I said, even that I really liked the main story idea of The Society Of Wishes, but the more and more further I got in the book, it just became bland and boring, also a little slow.

Shortly, Elise Kova's Society of Wishes' basic concept is very interesting for me and unique, but the book itself just could not became that good. The characters are stereorypical and the story is slow and became boring after a time. There are surely people, who will love Society Of Wishes, but I lost interest in it after reading it once.
