Katie Writes Fantasy

Some wounds can never heal. Or maybe can?

Frances Paul's fourth book, Sea Of Scars is the story of Zachary Reid, a former Marine.

Zachary is wounded. Badly. The only problem is, that his wounds and scars are much deeper, than on his body. His mind and soul, which needs healing. Sadly this is a little more difficult than healing the surface. Because of his PTSD, he has often nightmares and blackouts, wherefrom waking up is never pleasant. At this point, his family life is also in ruins, Alison wants divorce. The physical, mental and emotional abuse from her husband and the fear, what if his next victims will be their children… She just gave up fighting for their life together. Zachary is forced to seek help, even that he has no hope anymore. Everything is broken beyond repair. His mind, his family and his whole life. And one faithful day, he meets the beautiful and mysterious Courtney…

Will Zachary get another chance to live a normal, happy life? And Courtney, who has her own demons to run from, will be able to change Zachary? To heal his wounds? Or Zachary's condition will scare her away?

Sea Of Scars was an interesting and emotional read, which, I admit, made me cry. Both Zachary and Courtney had a dark, heavy past and deep wounds, which maybe never heal, yet they kept trying, what I admired very much. They were both great characters, for who you cheer and cry. All the other characters were also well-built and all of them helped to shape the novel well, until the end. They felt real and you could see through their eyes too Zachary and Courtney, which gave a new side.
The story of Sea Of Scars was not only an interesting read, to see things from the viewpoint of someone, who has PTSD and was abused, but for those, who struggle with the same, or similar problems, it can give hope and strength. Frances Paul researched well the scientific backgrounds, and I learned a lot of new things from the book. PTSD and any form of abuse is an existing problem and Sea Of Scars shows a way to survive them, moreover revive from them and having a full, happy life. It is like a message in a way, to never give up, to fight and hope. Because you never know, what life has for you. As also Sea Of Scars has its surprises, which I will not reveal now.

Shortly, Frances Paul's Sea Of Scars was a good, entertaining novel. It was emotional, interesting and taught you something truly important. To never give up and keep trying. To fight, because you worth it. Because everybody deserves a whole, happy life. I can recommend it to everyone, who likes romance, a  tale with a message, or just searching a good book to read.
