Katie Writes Fantasy

The City of a Thousand Dolls, full of talented girls and secrets. And then one girl is killed.

The City of a Thousand Dolls is a place, where people can leave their infant baby girls. These children will be raised by the City, to be anything from musicians, to wives or mistresses, healers, even a wife for a prince. Or an assassin. At least rumor says that. Nisha is one of the girls, who were abandoned here. However, since she was left in an older age than the other children, it was too late to train her to specialize in one thing. Like this, she became an exception, who can learn more different things, meantime she has a special task. Nisha is the errand girl and the eye of the head Matron of the City. Her life is peaceful, until one of the girls dies. Nobody knows, who killed the victim and that who will be the next. Everybody is afraid and to make things more difficult, soon the annual Redeeming is also here. The head Matron tells Nisha to investigate the murder. With the help of her friends, the cats, the girl starts searching answers and try to stop the killer, before they take the life of another victim. But with this, Nisha is also in danger.

One of my favourite thing in this novel is, that it put together two of the genres I love the most, fantasy and crime. During the whole story, the balance between the murder mystery and fantasy is perfect. We just get the right amount of everything, from romance, to the secrets of the City. The characters are also interesting, and you wonder together with Nisha, who is the murderer and why do they kill, meantime we get know also the City more. The book keeps you curious from the start, until the end, without getting boring.

Shortly, I found City of a Thousand Dolls a great book, which worths to read more. The story was interesting and the balance between the fantasy and murder mystery was perfect. It is a novel, which you just can not put down, I can recommend it to everyone, who is searching a good book.
