Katie Writes Fantasy

Meantime Sally's father (Guy Pearce) and his girlfriend (Katie Holmes) are restoring a 19th-century mansion, the little girl is curiously exploring the estate. With opening a secret door, Sally (Bailee Madison) discovers a hidden, seemingly forgotten basement. Here she starts hearing voices, which soon start following her in the house. The malevolent little creatures, who live in the shadows, try to drag the little girl down, to the dark, bottomless depts of the mansion.

I found the movie really good. The creatures were creepy and the beauty of the house and the whole atmosphere of it just boosted the creepyness of the movie for me. It was like a dark and mysterious modern fairy tale, I can recommend it to everyone, who likes horror.

Jack Bronson (Uriah Shelton) is the Black Knight, a strong warrior. In game. In real life he is bullied by the neighbourhood bully and his friends and  his answer is to run away. One day, Jack gets an expensive present from his boss, Mr. Cheng. The Warriors Gate is a family heirloom, so the boy doesn't want to accept it first, but his boss insists. The same night Jack wakes up, to have a sword on his neck and a stranger in his room. Zhao (Mark Chao), a warrior, tells the schocked boy, that he is searching the Black Knight, to look after Su Lin (Ni Ni), the princess. However soon barbarians come to kidnap Su Lin and they take her away. Jack folows them through the Warriors Gate, to save the princess from Arun the Cruel (Dave Bautista), the king of the barbarians.

Enter the Warriors Gate was like The Forbidden Kingdom, for me. Most basic parts of the plot were almost the same, like the Chinese boss, the bullies, and of course to 'go into another world' part. Sadly the characters were also quite typical and the whole movie was easily predictable, with many cliches. One of the few things, what I liked in it, Arun and his soldier, Brutus, they had some funny scenes together. The film is entertaining for once, but it is not the movie, which I want to watch more times.

Doctor Eric Price (Jason Clarke) is hired by the Winchester company, to assess the mental well-being of Sarah Winchester (Helen Mirren),  the widow of the famous gun manufacturer William Wirt Winchester. To do the job, he moves to the mansion of the woman, which is also well-known, also called 'the house built by spirits'. Soon he notices strange things,  but  he explains them, as the illusions of his own mind. After Mrs. Winchester tells Eric about the Winchester-curse, the doctor still has many doubts, but there are more and more unexplained things and questions.

When I saw, that there is a movie about the Winchester Mystery House, I became very curious. Sadly, even that the film had a good potential and possibilities, it just failed to deliver it. Both the story and the characters were cliché and easily predictable from the start, with the usual jumpscares. During the whole movie, there was only one surprise for me, also the explanation of the rooms of the house was interesting. Winchester is ok to watch once, mostly, if you like horror, but don't wait too much from it.

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) is a mercenary. One day he meets a prostitute, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and they become romantically involved. When Wade proposes the girl a year later, she says yes, and everything seems to be perfect. Until Wade is not diagnosed with terminal cancer. To protect Vanessa from watching him slowly die, he decides to leave without a word. Just when it seems, there is no hope for him, a mysterious man approaches Wilson, offering an experimental cure. However it turns out, he is injected with a serum designed to  awaken latent mutant genes, and he became a laboratory rat. After escaping, the new, scarred Wade becomes a masked vigilante, with the name 'Deadpool' and starts searching for revenge and get cure for his disfigurement from him.

To be honest, usually I am not a big fan of superhero movies. They are the same, just the names of the characters are different, and the plot is very predictable. Well, Deadpool is an exception. I enjoyed it very much, it was funny, original and entertaining. I will definitely watch the second movie and I can recommend it to everyone, who likes films with superheroes, or just searching something funny, with a lot of action.

Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) has a perfect life. A loving boyfriend (Justin Long) and a great job at a Los Angeles bank, which will be soon even better, if she gets the promotion and become assistant manager. However her co-worker also hopes for this, so Christine has to impress her boss and show him, that she is the best choice for the job. After these, when Mrs. Ganush (Lorna Raver) asks her a third extension on her mortgage, the girl has to decide, if she helps to the elderly woman, or deny the request, to demonstrate, that she is capable of tough decisions. When she refufes to help her, Mrs. Ganush curses Christine, who soon realises, that she is in deadly danger. She has to break the curse, before it takes her and she doesn't have much time.

The movie was quite predictable, with the typical jumpscares, even that the ending surprised me, which I guessed that it will be different. To watch it once, Drag me to Hell can be entertaining, but it is not the type of film, which I want to watch more times.

Dave Skylark (James Franco) is interviewing celebrities in his talk show, Skylark Tonight, about gossip and personal topics. Even that the show is successful and the crew celebrates its 1000th episode, the producer, Aaron Rapaport (Seth Rogen) is dissatisfied. A peer criticized Skylark Tonight, telling, it is not a real news program. After this, when Skylark discovers, that Kim Jong-un (Randall Park), the North Korean leader, is a fan of the show, he talks over Rapaport to arrange an interview. The North Korean chief propagandist, Sook-yin Park (Diana Bang), gives instructions about the task, making it official, that the talk show can have an exclusive interview with Kim. This makes huge advertisement for Skylark Tonight. So big, that the next day,  Skylark and Rapaport are visited by the CIA. Agent Lacey (Lizzy Caplan) has a task for the duo, to assassinate Kim Jong-un, which they reluctantly accept to do.

Shortly, I liked the movie very much. It was entertaining and funny, a nice action comedy. The acting was also good and I enjoyed every minute of The Interview. I can recommend it generally to everyone, who wants to watch something light, mostly for those, who like comedy.

Father Anton (Corneliu Ulici) is jailed for murdering a nun, however he says, he just wanted to save her, with performing exorcism on the woman. Nicole Rawlins (Sophie Cookson), a young journalist, immediately jumps at the story and travels there, to investigate the case. After the first encounter with the priest, Nicole is having nightmares and strange things start to happen, which she can't explain. She starts having doubts and wondering, what if Father Anton was really battling with a demon during the exorcism. A demon, which is still there. The journalist realizes, that this case is more than just a story and maybe her own life is also in danger.

To be honest, I always have doubts about horrors about exorcism. Usually they have the same patterns, twists and jumpscares. What I liked in The Crucifixion, that the story was not about the exorcism itself, but that what happened after it. However even that this is a good point for the film, I can not say, there are many other things, I liked in it. The plot was quite predictable and the character of Nicole also was stereotypical, not talking about the overused jumpscares. If you like exorcism horror, it is enjoyable to watch once, but don't wait too much from the movie.

Brad Whitaker (Will Ferrell) is a kind guy, who always wanted a family. Now at last, the two children of his wife (Linda Cardellini) start to accept him, he feels, that he is the happiest stepfather in the world. Until the day, when Sara's ex-husband, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg), calls, that he is back into town and wants to see his kids. To make things worse, Dusty has the aura of a bad-boy with his motor and he constantly demonstrates his talents in home repair, his flair for athletics and he is ready to win his children's heart back. Brad, who's insecurity just grows and grows, decides to takes the glove, which his rival threw and will fight for his family.

The movie was entertaining, I enjoyed watching it. Even that the main plot is not new and it had its cliches, Daddy's Home was fun to watch. It is a good, light comedy, which I can recommend, if someone is searching something, which is not too serious, just to rest a little.

1630, New England. A family is searching a new home and soon they find a place, where they can build their farm. One day Thomasin (Anya Taylor-Joy), the oldest daughter, plays with her little brother, Samuel, when the baby suddenly disappears. Everybody blames the girl, and the twins of the family, Mercy (Ellie Grainger) and Jonas (Lucas Dawson), even call Thomasin a witch. As strange and scary things continue to happen, the tension between the family members and the suspicion just grows and grows.

I really liked the movie, it was simple and was not full with boring, overused jumpscares, but rather used psichology. It was refreshing, scary and thought-provoking. I can definitely recommend it to everyone, who likes a good horror, or just wants to watch something interesting.

Ken Kaneki (Masataka Kubota) is a university student, a quiet, kind guy, who likes reading. He is happy, when at last he dares to ask out his crush, Rize (Yu Aoi), but on the date it turns out, that the girl is a ghoul. At Ken's luck, a steel frame falls on Rize, before she can eat the boy. When he wakes up next, he is in the hospital, but what turns out just later, he received an organ transplant from Rize and became a half ghoul. Now Ken has to learn to live as a ghoul, if he wants to survive...

The movie could summerize together the anime episodes well, without causing confusions. It was also entertaining and the actor as Nishiki was really good. However Hinami was too old, in the anime she is younger. Shortly, even that it was not perfect, the live-action was a fun and nice anime adaptation.

Three inept watchmen (Ken Arnold, Kevin Jiggetts, Dan DeLuca) and a rookie (Max Gray Wilbur) are assigned to take care of a misplaced delivery, a wooden coffin. What they don't know, that Blimpo the Clown is in it, who mysteriously died in Romania, together with his whole troup. After someone opens the coffin, hell breaks free. Now the watchmen and one of the survivors, a journalist(Kara Luiz), have to fight for their life against a horde of vampires...

If someone likes horror comedies, or just want to relax and watch something light, I can recommend The Night Watchmen. It is entertaining and funny, ideal if you just want to rest and laugh after a hard day.

Ten years after the infamous Kira-case, unexplained deaths suggests, that there are still Death Note users. The Interpol acts fast and creates the Death Note Task Force with the leading of Detective Tsukuru Mishima (Masahiro Higashide) and the help of L's biological successor, Ryuzaki (Sosuke Ikematsu). The team finds a Death Note and successfully secures it, after Sakura Aoi, the owner is killed by another Death Note. The original owner of the notebook, Beppo, tells them disturbing news, that there is six Death Note in the human world now, the maximum number, that can be there. But who has the remaining five notebooks? The Task Force has to locate and get the Death Notes before more people are killed.

I found the concept really interesting, and as a fan of Death Note, waited the movie excitedly. However it was repetitive, with unnecessary things. Like why Ryuzaki had to be L's biological successor? It felt forced, as if they would want to bring back L, but the same time want a fully new character too. The movie was fun to watch once, but to be honest, I waited more from it.
