Review of Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones

A magical tale about goblins, music and dreams.

Since her childhood, Liesl heard many stories about goblins and the Goblin King. These fairy-tales even inspired her musical compositions. Now that she is eighteen, and her brother has a great chance, Liesl feels that her dreams will never come true. No matter that how good composer she is, she is just a girl, not a boy. And then one day her beautiful and cheerful sister is taken by the Goblin King. Liesl follows her to the Underground, to see a world of fairy-tales with her own eyes and save Kathe. However the girl has to realise, that it is not just about saving her sister, but to discover who is the real Liesl and decide about her fate and dreams, before her time runs out.

When I read the main plot of this book, it made me really curious and I could not wait to start to read it. But it made me disappointed. The mood of the book felt too gloomy and after a time it became a little boring. Nor the characters helped, I don't really liked Liesl, and the Goblin King felt too weak and apathetic. Also, I have to admit, that I didn't like nor the ending of the novel too much.

Shortly, Wintersong was a disappointment for me.
The mood of the story was too gloomy for me and the main characters also felt weak. Maybe someone else enjoys this book, but for me, it is not the type I like reading.
