Review of Rosalyn Eves' Blood Rose Rebellion

A world with magic, and a girl, who's ability can change everything.

Welcome to an alternate Victorian England, where magic is normal, moreover your social prestige also depends on it. Anna Arden was born to a good family, the only problem is, she is Barren, has no magical abilities. Even that she would do anything, to fit to the society, after she ruins her sister's debutante spells, she has to leave the country. She is exiled to Hungary, accompanied with her grandmother, who was born there. Anna feels that her life is over, but in her new home many surprises are waiting for her. She sees a wholly new world and realises, maybe she is not barren, just has a strange and dangerous magical ability. Something, what can fully change everything. Soon Anna finds herself in a middle of a dilemma, and has to decide, what will  she do. Keep chasing a dream to be accepted in a society, which would kill her because of her special magic, or become a key part of a revolution, which want to change her whole world?

I really liked the setting and the ancient creatures. It was interesting in the book, that it used the Hungarian legends for the beasts.  However next to these, there are not that many good things I found in the story. It had too many cliches and was too easily predictable. Anna's character was also quite cliche, her hidden, but very special ability, her personality. The basic plot of the novel was good, but it became too predictable after a time.

To sum it, Blood Rose Rebellion had interesting parts, and the main plot was also good, but the main character was too stereotypical and the novel itself too predictable. For once it was ok, but it is not the type of book I want to read a second time.
