The magical retelling of Brigadoon, or two girls with the destiny, to walk into a fairytale.
Veronica Welling always loved the story about Doon, a beautiful land with a real prince. She even keeps seeing a handsome, blond stranger, which is maybe not a too good sign about her sanity. But who would blame her? Her boyfriend is more into her competition and the girl catches him cheating on her, and even her own mother just treats her, as if she would be only a meal ticket. After these, Vee is more than happy, to be able to have a summer vacation in Scotland with Mackenna Reid, her best friend. In their temporary home, there are strange clues left by Kenna's aunt, for the two friends. Vee is excited, Kenna is quite disbelieving. Both of them are surprised, when they successfully walk through the bridge into the enchanted kingdom of Doon. This could be, like a dream come true for Vee, the place, she longed for and even the handsome, mysterious stranger is there. He is Jamie MacCrae, the future king of Doon and he tries to imprison the two witches, who just arrived to his land. It is only because of Duncan, the younger prince, that Kenna and Vee not end in prison, but Jamie still looks at them with suspicion. Soon the girls get know, no wonder that they were thought to be witches, because their presence could break the enchantment that protects the realm. Vee is ready fight for her dreams and win the trust of Jamie, but Kenna is worried. She doesn't plan to spend her life in an enchanted kingdom, even that Duncan is obviously interested in her. The girls have to save Doon and risk everything, or this land from tales will vanish forever.
I really like the series and one of the reasons of this is, its message. At least I think, it has one, to follow your dreams, don't give up and ignore it, if others think they are silly, fight for them. The main concept of the story is interesting and fun, I like as we get know better and better the magical realm of Doon. It is like a place, where I would also want to go from the modern world. The characters were also good, Kenna with her doubts balanced Vee, who believed from the start that the fairytale about a kingdom on the other side of the bridge is true.
To sum everything, I really enjoyed reading the Doon series and I can recommend it to everyone, who likes fantasy and yound adult books. It is an enchanting story about dreams, with a lot of adventures.
