Three sisters, who are all queens, but only one of them will have a crown.
The island of Fennbirn has a strange and cruel tradition. Its queen is chosen from the triplets of the previous ruler, but the girls have to fight for the throne against each other. The one, who survives, will be the next, who gets the crown... Arsinoe, Katharine and Mirabella all know these, they heard the stories about the previous queens since their childhood. To kill each other and give a new ruler to the island. It is their duty and destiny. However hearing it and doing it is different. Will the sisters really be able to kill each other? Katharine, the poisoner queen, is a sweet and little shy, but dutiful girl. Mirabella, who is an elemental, told to be the strongest from the three sisters and more people say, that she will be the next crowned queen, and there is Arsinoe, who doesn't show any naturalist magic yet. Now, that the triplets turn sixteen, the deadly game for the crown can start. However Mirabella feels no hate against her sisters and plans to flee, meantime Arsinoe, who once already tried to left the island with her friends and is convinced that she will just be killed by the others, doesn't want to kill Mirabella and Katharine. But what fate has for the girls? Will they fight against each other willfully? The game of life and death started and it has just one rule, only one sister can survive...
I really enjoyed every chapter of the books. The characters are interesting and every twist makes you curious, what happens next. The only thing I missed, to read a little more about the history of the island and how the tradition with the triplet queens was created, but maybe we will hear about that more in a later novel.
To sum it, I like the series very much. It is entertaining and original, a dark fairy tale, which could be also an awesome miniseries. For fantasy fans I definitely recommend it, but also to anybody, who just want to read a good book.
