Review of Death Note: Light Up the New World (live-action movie)

by - December 14, 2017

Ten years after the infamous Kira-case, unexplained deaths suggests, that there are still Death Note users. The Interpol acts fast and creates the Death Note Task Force with the leading of Detective Tsukuru Mishima (Masahiro Higashide) and the help of L's biological successor, Ryuzaki (Sosuke Ikematsu). The team finds a Death Note and successfully secures it, after Sakura Aoi, the owner is killed by another Death Note. The original owner of the notebook, Beppo, tells them disturbing news, that there is six Death Note in the human world now, the maximum number, that can be there. But who has the remaining five notebooks? The Task Force has to locate and get the Death Notes before more people are killed.

I found the concept really interesting, and as a fan of Death Note, waited the movie excitedly. However it was repetitive, with unnecessary things. Like why Ryuzaki had to be L's biological successor? It felt forced, as if they would want to bring back L, but the same time want a fully new character too. The movie was fun to watch once, but to be honest, I waited more from it.
